Score. I found two bottles on sale for $10.99 at Kroger this evening. Had one tonight with roast beef subs from Subway. Very, very good, as all Paul Newman products. And once again, Marjories like, a lot. Uh, did I mention the price was $10.99 on sale???? : )

Our second to last bottle or Baron K. A “snow day” today was special enough for some German Riesling, but not special enough to part with vintage ’sling. Getting better as it ages, it’s still too subtle. Give us more fruit intensity and a bit more acidity and you have a world class Rheingau Riesling. I guess we can’t complain much for ten bucks. : )

OK, so Marjorie thinks I was a bit harsh giving this wine an “A-.” I did so based on PRICE, which works well on value wines (skewing a grade based on a low price per quality - QPR) but I admit was a bit unfair here with a $20 wine. Yes, I wish it was $15. Or $17. But regardless of price, this was a fantastic wine. So, Marjorie, I apologize to you and to Dan, and hereby give the wine an “A.”

BF cab with hearty beef stew. Grape jelly with a valiant attempt for complexity with some diffuse baking spice (cinnamon and vanilla.) Quite harmless. For $6.99, we’ve had worse (MUCHO worse) but I’d rather pay a few more bucks for better. BUT (and that’s a BIG but) it IS a good recession wine.

That last review of Dr. L was written in a nice hotel while we were at the Cleveland Clinic for a couple of days. The Dr. L was good, even in cheap thin plastic cups (the kind left by the sink.) How would it be in nice proper (Rabbit in this case) wine glasses? Well, even better! Plenty of acidity, giving that hint of sweetness some balance and bite. I’d like to taste some nicer fruit purity here (comes off as “harsh”, but not bad) but who am I to complain at all!
Very good stuff. I’m sure our doctors at the CC would approve of Dr. Loosen’s techniques!

Same same same with roast chicken. This is real Pinot Noir. Good stuff; just not as complex as the big boys. Still for $8.99, it sure is tasty. And Marjorie really likes it.

More lovely Ech Cab from Andes. Friendly, gulpable, fruity and food loving. Unfortunately, the price has jumped from $10.99 to $12.99. Nice with spaghetti; great with homemade brownies. And Marjorie likes it (rare for a red wine!)

Yep, the Asti was wonderful as usual. A good choice to saying good riddance to 2009 and the hope of a better 2010. Hope all of you have a new year of good health, personal growth and good wine in 2010!
