Trapiche Oak Cask 2006 Malbec Mendoza

We enjoyed the 2005 vintage (see the review for details), and picked up the 2006 at Jungle Jim’s last week for $11.99.  I won’t mince words since the 2005 review is SPOT ON with our experience tonight.  Lots of pure fruit, with ample licorice and cinnamon and vanilla.  Nicely sweet from the purity of the fruit and the oak, this didn’t excel with tonight’s baked chicken (it was fine, though) - would be mucho better with red meat.  Still, a bargain for the price.  Plus, Marjorie liked it - a rarity for red wine these days.

Grade:  B+
